While there are many excellent places to pursue these fish along the East coast there is also some great lakes and river systems throughout the country that are also provide great angling for these fish. Stripers pull and fight really hard and are often caught actively tossing and retrieving lures making them favorites of anglers that pursue an active day of fishing versus just trolling or fishing with live bait. While those techniques are deadly and can get you on the biggest fish in the pond there is nothing like a huge explosion on surface of the water from a big striped bass killing a walk the dog type lure or having a rod almost ripped out of your hands while fast reeling a rattle trap or swimbiat.
Montauk is where striped bass legends are made of. The tip of long island sticks into the Atlantic ocean here and the huge fall fishing run can be like nothing else. Toss lures from the shore or from a boat to catch these monsters.
San Francisco Bay and California Delta are home to the best striped bass fishing on the West coast. Fish can be caught throughout the delta system year round with the largest catches happening during the fall and spring migrations. Fishing guides will fish from all the way out in the Pacific past the Golden Gate, through the San Francisco Bay and all the way up the Sacramento river and down the San Joaquin river delta system.
Cape Cod home to the biggest striped bass in the country. If you want to pursue the opportunity to hook the biggest fish out there than you will want to make sure that Cape Cod is on your list of places to fish at least once in your lifetime.
Moving inland the Alabama Coosa River Striped bass are perfect change up from regular bass fishing if you are in the area. One of the few healthy striped bass fishing populations that are naturally reproducing in a land locked situations these fish move up the rivers during the spring are more predictable during this time of year for anglers to get into groups of solid fish.
Lake Powell in Arizona is necessarily known for producing large fish, but there is a very healthy population of striped bass in the lake and they can be caught consistently on top water when they are schooled up and pursuing bait fish. Tossing zara puppy spooks and catching fish is a blast and if you are in the Southwest it is a great opportunity to catch a lot fish on the surface and have fun chasing schooled up fish.
